Founded in 1958 and headquartered in Concord, MA, Minute Man Arc for Human Services is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of more than 1,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). With over 65 years of service across the greater Concord region, we provide a comprehensive continuum of care - from Early Intervention and children's camps, to adult day services, employment supports, recreation, and a range of residential options including group homes, adult foster care, and shared living. Minute Man Arc is accredited by CARF International and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS), the Department of Public Health (DPH), and the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
The Director of Development and Marketing is a senior leadership role responsible for building and executing Minute Man Arc's (MMA) fundraising and marketing strategy in support of the organization's mission to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. This position leads all development operations, brand and communications strategy, program marketing support, and donor engagement, and supervises the marketing/development staff, using external resources as appropriate. The Director serves as the primary staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board and leads MMA's signature fundraising events, including the annual March and Gala. The Director leads Development strategy and operations, with the Development Committee serving in an advisory and supportive role.This is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer
Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Development Operations
- Design and execute an annual development plan encompassing individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorship, foundation and grant support, planned giving, and special events
- Set annual fundraising goals in partnership with the CEO and CFO, and report regularly against key performance metrics
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors and prospects, including direct one-on-one engagement
- Own donor, sponsor, and event data, including the organization's donor database (CRM), ensuring accurate gift processing, acknowledgment, and reporting, and setting consistent procedures across all MMA events for capturing attendee, sponsor, and donor information
- Assess the current fundraising program and infrastructure within the first 90 days and recommend changes based on MMA's size and capacity, using peer benchmarks adjusted for scale
- Report to the CEO and Board using verified data, and monitor revenue concentration to build a more diversified funding base
- Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities, including foundation and government grant prospects, in coordination with program leadership
Marketing & Communications
- Develop and execute a marketing and communications strategy that builds public awareness of MMA's mission, programs, and impact
- Oversee content and messaging across MMA's website, social media and press/media relations
- Ensure consistent branding and voice across all donor-facing and public communications
- Partner with program staff to source and share stories that authentically represent participants and families served by MMA
- Partner with Program Directors to create marketing campaign strategy, marketing materials and messaging for MMA programs
Program Marketing Support (All MMA Programs)
- Set marketing support priorities with the CEO and Program Directors, balancing requests from across MMA programs against Development and Marketing capacity
- Develop marketing plans for programs that grow through referrals and direct enrollment, such as Adult Foster Care and TimberNook, defining target audiences, referral sources, positioning, and messaging in partnership with each Program Director
- Produce the marketing materials program staff need to generate inquiries and referrals, including: brochures, one-pagers, digital ad creative, landing pages, email sequences, referral-partner materials, and social content
- Build and maintain a marketing toolkit and template library so program staff can carry out local outreach without requesting custom materials each time
- Build program marketing capability across MMA by coaching Program Directors, senior leaders, and their teams
- Coordinate with program-based outreach staff, including the Adult Foster Care outreach role, so messaging, materials, and lead follow-up are aligned
- Manage the program marketing budget and external marketing vendors (design, print, digital advertising) in coordination with the CFO
- Track which materials and campaigns generate inquiries and referrals, report results to Program Directors and the CEO alongside development metrics, and refine tools accordingly. Program Directors retain ownership of enrollment targets; the Director is accountable for the effectiveness of marketing support
- Maintain a consistent visual and messaging identity across program marketing and donor-facing communications, adapted to each audience
Board & Committee Engagement
- Serve as primary staff liaison to the Development Committee: setting agendas, preparing materials, coordinating meetings, and turning committee ideas and input into strategy in light of MMA's priorities, data, and capacity
- Partner with the CEO and Board on donor cultivation strategy, including board member engagement in fundraising
- Provide regular development updates to the full Board of Directors
- Work with the CEO and Board Chair to maintain a written charter defining the roles of the committee, the Board, and staff
- Coordinate Board members' community outreach so it aligns with MMA's fundraising and
- communications strategy
Event Leadership
- Serve as lead staff organizer for MMA's signature fundraising events, including the annual March (walk/fundraising event) and the Gala
- Manage all aspects of event planning and execution: budgeting, vendor and venue management, sponsorship sales, committee coordination, volunteer management, logistics, and post-event evaluation, in coordination with program, business, and facilities staff
- Build and staff event host committees, working closely with board members and community volunteers
- Ensure events meet or exceed revenue and engagement targets while reflecting MMA's mission and values
- Evaluate each event annually on return on investment, including net revenue, cost per dollar raised, attendance trends, and donor or underwriter concentration, and recommend whether to continue, change, or retire it
- Review community-hosted and third-party events that request MMA resources against staff capacity and event priorities, and coordinate any commitments with the appropriate staff in advance
Team Leadership
- Directly supervise and mentor the Manager of Development and Marketing, providing coaching, goal-setting, and performance management
- Build organizational capacity in development and marketing functions, including: onboarding future team members as the department grows
- Develop the program marketing skills of marketing/development staff, using external resources as appropriate.
- Foster a collaborative culture that connects development and marketing work to program impact across MMA
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; advanced degree a plus
- Minimum 7 years of progressive nonprofit development and/or marketing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals, including major gift cultivation and event-based fundraising
- Experience managing donor CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, DonorPerfect, Bloomerang, or similar)
- Demonstrated data discipline, including event ROI analysis, donor data management, and reporting results to executive leadership and boards
- Experience developing marketing and sales-support materials for direct-response or consumer-facing campaigns (collateral, digital ad creative, landing pages, email sequences)
- Experience tracking marketing results (inquiry sources, referrals, conversion) and reporting them to leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor and public-facing messaging
- Experience staffing board committees and working directly with volunteer leadership, including translating their input into sound plans while maintaining clear roles
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and deadlines, particularly around signature events
Preferred
- Experience in human services, disability services, or a related nonprofit sector
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms (email marketing, social media management, website CMS)
- Experience marketing consumer-facing health, senior care, youth, or family services programs, or other enrollment-based services
- Grant writing experience
- Existing relationships within the Greater Boston/MetroWest philanthropic and business community
This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Direct reports: Manager of Development and Marketing.
- Key partners: CFO, Development Committee, Program Directors, Board of Directors
Additionally, this role is based in Concord, MA, with hybrid flexibility of up to two remote days per week depending on the needs of the organization, and regular evening and weekend availability required around events, board meetings, and donor engagements. Some local travel required.
Salary
